Who checks the EXPIRY date of Products in Ghana? - Dblex questions
The Food and Drugs Authority(FDA) is the National Regulatory Body which exists to protect public health by assuring the safety, efficacy and security of human and veterinary drugs, food, biological products, cosmetics, medical devices, household chemical substances, tobacco and the conduct of clinical trials in the country.
The FDA is to ensure quality, safe and efficacious wholesome products through Registration, Inspections, Licensing, Surveillance, and Clinical trials activities in conformity with the applicable National and international standards to meet customer satisfaction.
The Public Health Act 2012,provides for the establishment of a governing board with the responsibility of ensuring the effective implementation of the functions of the Authority, but our Chauvinistic question is, IS THE FDA LIVING UP TO THE EXPECTATIONS OF THE GHANAIAN CITIZEN?.
The trust reposed in the Authority by the citizens is gradually diminishing because umpteen products on the Ghanaian market have expired, with a meagre number of other products soon to be expired upon checks.
The lives of Ghanaians are at stake as they continue ingesting obsoleted foods and products quotidianly.
The Food and Drugs Authority is therefore urged humbly to be up and doing by embarking on a project instantaneously to eradicate such foods and products from the market to save lives.
"Saving our planet, lifting people out of poverty, advancing economic growth... these are one and the same fight. We must connect the dots between climate change, water scarcity, energy shortages, GLOBAL HEALTH, FOOD SECURITY and women's empowerment. Solutions to one problem must be solutions for all."
